Your Donations Make a Difference

All money raised at Wings Over Wall Street® goes toward ALS research. Your donations directly benefit the research teams of Dr. Hiroshi Mitsumoto, Director of the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig MDA/ALS Research Center at Columbia University and Dr. Jeffrey Rothstein, Director of the The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins. Scientists at Columbia University investigate the mechanisms of motor neuron degeneration, particularly of the cell death process, effects of inflammation, and the cytoskeletal abnormalities in ALS. Part of this investigation includes the interaction between genes and environmental exposure and developing objective markers for ALS. They also study the mechanisms to make the stem cells into mature motor neurons develop their functional circuit. Additionally, they are studying multiple medications to determine the best possible drug for treating ALS. What would we do with more money for research? Click here to see.

Scientists at Johns Hopkins continue to make some of the most important discoveries in ALS, with key work focusing on the explanation the disease at the molecular level. Studies first established the most common reason for cell death in ALS, and have formed the basis for a decade of drug discovery leading to Riluzole, the only FDA approved drug for ALS.
